Dr. Coon enjoys spending his time outside of the hospital with his wife (Laura Coon) and their two children (Alex and Ellie). Dr. Coon is an avid cyclist, mountaineer, and endurance athlete, having completed 4 Alaskan expeditions and 19 Ironman events around the world.
Dr. Coon has trained 7 neurosurgical fellows
Each of these fellows have gone on to become vascular neurosurgeons at some of the nations’ most prestigious institutions.
These fellows include Dr. Geoffrey Colby, the Director of Cerebrovascular Neurosurgery at the University of California Los Angeles, and Dr. Li-Mei Lin, Director of Cerebrovascular and Neuroendovascular Research at the University of California, Irvine, Dr. Matthew Bender at the University of Rochester, Dr. Narlin Beaty at Florida State University, and Dr. Bowen Jiang and Dr. Justin Caplan at Johns Hopkins University.
Dr. Coon sees patients at Western Neuro on Mondays or by alternate appointments in his office.
